A road trip route to all the National Parks in the lower 48 states
UPDATE: Ooops ! I found after posting this that the folks at Isle Box had this idea before me and beat me to the punch on doing it. I’ll leave it up for now since I think the following post on methodology is illustrative, though my final results here don’t really add anything to their original results.
ORIGINAL POST :
Well, almost.
I was curious as to the shortest driving distance between all the national parks. I decided to just concentrate on the lower 48, and even after that decision, there were still 3 parks that can’t really be directly driven to without our handy hovercraft. But that still left 44 parks to play with.
I will go into a little more details in the next post, but for now, here is a route of 15,233 miles to hit all 44 of the parks.
The listing here will give the distance between the parks in the route above. As the route is a loop, it could be started anywhere in the list as long the order was maintained. Note the distance on a line is the distance from the previous line to the current line (and the first line is the distance from the last park in the list to the first). Thus, for example, it is 888.5 miles from Big Bend to Hot Springs.
